the best homemade snack mix

Homemade snack mix is one of my favorite things to make during this time of the year. I love making a huge batch to snack on while watching my favorite Holiday movies and lounging by the fireplace – it’s the perfect accompaniment to a glass of wine or your favorite brew, too! During Christmas, I always triple the recipe to package into cute mason jars wrapped with twine for a fun, homemade gift! Trust me when I say your friends and family will request it every year … it’s so good!

Grab a drink and let’s make the best Cajun-Style Snack Mix!

what’s in cajun-style snack mix?

The best thing about snack mix is that you can customize it to your liking because the flavor is really all in the Cajun-Style spice mix. I like to add a variation for different textures from crackers to nuts! Here’s what I find works best:

  • Bugles
  • Vegan-friendly Chex-Style Cereal: Please see my notes in the recipe regarding this
  • Pretzels
  • Variety of Nuts
  • Rye Chips: Yep, the Gardetto brand! They’re accidentally vegan! Although the chips contain Worcestershire sauce, it is free from anchovies!
  • Oyster Crackers

Ingredients

Cajun-Style Seasoning Mix:

  • 1 cup melted vegan butter
  • 1/3 cup soy milk powder mix see notes*
  • 3 TBS nutritional yeast
  • 2 TBS garlic powder
  • 1 TBS smoked paprika
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp mustard powder
  • 2 tsp dried dill
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

  • 3 cups vegan-friendly Chex-style cereal see notes*
  • 2 cups Garlic Rye chips
  • 2 cups pretzels I used mini pretzels
  • 1 cup assorted mixed nuts
  • 1 cup oyster crackers

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325° F.
  • Place the melted butter and seasonings in a large bowl and whisk until combined.
  • Gently add the snack mix to the bowl, tossing to combine to seasonings and snack mix, about 3 minutes. Spread the mix evenly onto a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 30 minutes, gently tossing halfway through.
  • Serve immediately.
  • Store the snack mix in a sealed mason jar up to 7 days.
  • ENJOY!

Notes

* I find the soy milk powder mix on Amazon. If you're unable to find it, you can use coconut milk powder mix, or any other non-dairy milk powder mix. To omit completely, use 1/2 cup nutritional yeast instead of 3 tablespoons
*Chex Mix Cereal in the US contains D3 which unfortunately is not vegan-friendly. A great alternative brand is Cascadian Farms! If you're not able to find a vegan-friendly Chex-style cereal, simply use any of the other ingredients in its place!
