For the Sauce:
- 1 cup vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (1-2 limes)
- 1 teaspoon Thai chili flakes
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons neutral oil, such as avocado or vegetable
- 2 (16-ounce) blocks of extra firm tofu, pressed and shredded on the large side of a box grater or crumbled by hand
- 1 large white onion, diced
- 10 cloves fresh minced garlic
- 3-6 Thai chilies
- 1 Fresno chili, seeded and diced, optional
- 2 cups packed Thai or sweet basil
- Cooked rice, for serving, optional
- Fresh lime wedges, for serving, optional
To make the sauce, whisk its ingredients in a bowl until well combined and set aside.
Next, heat the oil in a large sauté pan or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the tofu and cook, stirring often, until golden and crisp around the edges, 12 to 15 minutes.
Add the onion, garlic, and chilies, and stir-fry until fragrant, 3 to 5 minutes.
Pour in the reserved sauce, tossing to coat the tofu, and continue to cook until it thickens and reduces a bit, 3 to 5 minutes.
Off the heat, add the basil leaves and toss until just wilted, 1 to 2 minutes.
Serve immediately with rice and lime wedges and enjoy!
