Hey Guys! For those of you who don’t know us, we are The Ashleys….the girls behind Eat Figs, Not Pigs. We’re a vegan couple who have become completely passionate about the movement. We share our recipes on this website to show people that eating plant based can be delicious and rewarding. Cooking, eating and drinking together has always been our passion and after learning about the devastating effects that animal agriculture has on our earth, we decided to switch to a plant based diet overnight! I know, crazy, right?!
To start off, I want to be completely clear with the fact that we are the last two people in the world that ever thought we would adopt a fully vegan diet. Both Ashlee and myself grew up in households that served meat, dairy and eggs in copious amounts. We liked our steak served a perfect medium-rare and cheese was always the ideal accompaniment for any dish. We put it on our apple pie for fucking crying out loud. Ashlee even got a degree from culinary school. There, vegetarian/vegan dishes were rarely, if ever, shared in classes. Meat and dairy were holy in our world!!! By researching and educating ourselves, we were able to completely change our perception of food. It wasn’t easy, but we promised to become the best vegans we could be and today, our only regret is that we didn’t become vegan sooner.
While we focus mainly on comfort food, you can find a ton of different recipes on our page ranging from quick and easy to deep fried and delicious.
Our goal is to show people that they can eat the most amazing and delicious food on a plant based diet, regardless of personal preferences. We’ve grown even closer through this experience of learning new ways to cook and eat our food and we hope our blog might help make the transition easier for someone else.
